    Flash Player problem in IE9

Yesterday i downloaded and installed the newest version of the Adobe Flash Player version 11.6.602.168
Today both File hippo and Secunia are telling me i need to upgrade to version 11.6.602.168(non IE) from 11.5.602.168.
Adobe's flash Player's web site confirms that i have the newest version installed for IE9. I do not have any other browser installed and haven't for months.
i tried to reinstall it gets to about 50% and i get a error message telling me to close IE and try again.(i did not have IE open). OK no problem i downloaded the Uninstaller thinking i would just uninstall it and then reinstall. same problem half way thru the uninstall it tells me i need to close IE for it to continue.
Any ideas? i ran both the registry cleaner and the regular cleaner from Ccleaner and a virus scan but at this point i am completely baffled.

Problem cured thanks to Roderunner and his post in the Windows 7 section titled Adobe Flashplayer lockup.
