    windows restart window

I've been running Windows 8 for some time now on a Lenovo Thinkpad. Everything seems to be working correctly and i have updated and installed without any trouble But, whenever I shut down and restart or restart from sleep I get a window saying I must restart my computer to finish the installation. I've restarted dozens of times and I've tried Fred Langa's shutdown.exe sequence but still the window comes back. According to the updateregister, everything has installed. Has anyone any idea why this is happening?

Sounds like a Windows update. Type Windows key + W and type "Update". Click on Windows update. See if there are any pending updates.

Try shutting down the computer as opposded to a simple restart. It might be rapid boot that is somehow interfering.

    Thanks Clint

I have tried a full shutdown using shutdown.exe -f -s -t 00 which according to Microsoft closes everything but i still get the little window saying I need to restart.

Have you tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter. You can find it in Control Panel>Troubleshooting.

The troubleshooter reckoned it had fixed errors with update but the window keeps on coming back!

    Thanks again Rich

After I'd run the troubleshooter it seemed nothing had happened but I did a complete shutdown and restarted. It seems to be fixed!
