    Windows 7 Not Genuine Copy

Installed Win 7 December 2012,have runn the OS with no problems until Sunday.

Just after installing several (9) win7 updates, and had downloaded and installed Nuance PDF reader and LittlePDF the error message" Not Genuine copy" appeared on screen with a black background. Using a restore point had no effect on the problem.

Searching the internet found several similar problems other OS user have had in the past. Following one of the solutions, re-activated the OS and obtained "Genunine software validation".

The problem remaining is the screen background is black. Have attempted several things short of formatting the Win7 Partition and installing a partition image.

Does anyone know how to clear the black background? My printer icon is usually visible when os is started but not with the black background. Does the black background indicate there may be a future problem with the OS?

    Thank you.

Where did you obtain your copy of Win 7?

WU does run the Genuine Product app periodically during the patch Tuesday updates. You can try this support article.

Another possible solution is to call MS support for activation assistance.

pepper, are you saying that you have gotten rid of the "not genuine" message and problems, but that your desktop background picture remains plain black?

Did you try right clicking on the desktop and clicking on Personalize? You should then be able to select a different theme and/or window color.

    Thank you all for responding.

To clarify: Sunday received the Not Genuine OS message from Microsoft along with a Black background. RE-activated and received "Genuine OS" validation, but the black screen remained.

Contacted MS tech support, yesterday and learned as one of the responses here in the lounge indicated that I could change the background screen in "Themes". Also learned that starting an Administrator run command "SFC /scannow" will likely fix any downloaded update problems - and apparently this was what created the black background.

Glad you solved your problem. SFC does indeed fix many problems. It's not 100%, but generally very effective with system issues.
