Note that this feature is only available in Windows 8 Enterprise. It's not supported in the Pro version.

Plus I still didn't really understand the advantages even after reading it twice. Domain uniformity, portability, cool factor?

The main advantage is that a user can boot a system to a pre-configured Windows 8 OS that contains work configuration, security, and applications. If users store their files on SharePoint or SkyDrive they can have their whole work environment on any device that supports Windows-To-Go without having to have their work machine and not worry about syncronization of files.

Yes, but wouldn't one likely just end up carrying their own system to run it on with them as well? Perfect for a workaholic that takes the work home with them though, literally. That Mark guy who works for Contoso seemed entirely concentrated on dealing with control issues (domain).

The whole point is that the user does not have to lug anything other than a USB drive. It would be very easy to have multiple installations specifically dedicated to certain purposes from a general user workstation, multiple single purpose demos, a dedicated debug setup, etc.

Ya I thought that was more the Hyper-V territory but it doesn't matter, I'll never see it in action but I still like the idea of system independence.

It is similar in concept except you are booting a Window 8 instance from the USB drive. It is not a VM but a real live Windows 8.
