    Annoying unwanted toolbar/web page

    Hi

My computer runs Vista. A few days ago I had become the recipient of an unwanted toolbar or web page that calls itself Mywebsearch. I say toolbar or web page because I’m not absolutely sure which of the two it is. Maybe it’s both. My normal home page is Google, and I want it to stay that way too. When I go onto the Net, my Google home page is there. But when I visit anything and return to my home page by clicking on the home icon, that home page changes to Mywebsearch. It doesn’t make any difference using the function “Make Google my home page”, because Mywebsearch overrides it.

I have gone looking on the Net for ways to remove this Mywebsearch trash, and so far they all seem to involve going to the Control Panel and removing programs called “My Web Search” and “My Search Assistant.” I cannot find these programs on the list. How the hell do I get rid of this?

    Thank you

    Ibex,

Since you have instructions try downloading Revo Uninstaller Free and use it in place of Add/Remove Programs and see it it will find the program. You can also use autoruns and see if you can find and disable it starting then reboot and see if it shows up then.

After trying RG's advice, try running Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) and Superantispyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/) .

Another tool you might find useful: AdwCleaner Version:2.113

I would still run MBAM and the REVO uninstaller tool.
The above app may help confirm by providing you with an actual name, folder path, and reg entry path.
