    Unwarranted Assumptions

    Two related puzzles:
    1) place 4 coins such that each one touches the other 3,
    2) place 4 birds such that each is the same distance from the other 3.

    1. Place three of the coins on a flat surface in a triangular formation so they touch each other, then lay the fourth coin on top so it touches the three initial coins.
    2. Place the birds at the vertices of a regular tetrahedron (the points of a triangular pyramid with all of its faces being identical equilateral triangles). I guess you might need to sedate or kill the birds first....

    Excellent thinking well outside the box most folk assume solution has to be in 2D even though this is not stated in the problem.
