Program Submenu on Start Menu

This question came up in a class our company was teaching. In Windows 95, the Program submenu displayed all items at once on the screen, sometimes taking as many as 3 or 4 panels - which of course covered up the desktop. Beginning with Windows 98, the Program submenu displays in one panel with scroll buttons to view all entries.

Not sure why the student wanted to know, but can Windows 98/2000, etc be modified to display the program submenu like Windows 95 did?

    Hi Nancy...

Your query can be done using Xteq System X-Setup.

Simply download and install the software (run your virus scanner first of course), and once into the software, look for the Appearance --> Start Menu --> Options --> Display Options, and there you'll see an entry to show Start --> Programs menu in multiple columns.

This little program does a lot of neat things... check it out.

If this is more than you want, I know there is a registry tweak that can be made, but I can't find it at the moment... I'll continue to search for you...

    Have fun!

Thanks Chris. We'll give it a try. I personally like the new layout in Windows 98/2000, but you run across questions like this from students who want to know "if" and "how".

    Thanks again,

    Nancy
