Mail Merge Question - Placing sequential data in different table cells

My Word 2002 mail merges come out of a database I have no control over how the data is formatted.

For exmaple, a merge field is called {Charges}. It returns the following data in one table cell.

    1
    2
    3

For a three-cell table, is there a merge code that would place the "2" in the second table cell and the "3" in the third cell? I've tried {Next Record} but all the numbera end up in cell one like above.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,

Word has no splitting functions for fields, so it's generally not possible to take parts of a mergefield's output and put them in different cells. There are exceptions for numeric data, where math functions can be used to isolate parts of the string, but those too are fairly limited in what they can achieve.

You could work around this problem by linking/importing the data to an Access database and creating a query there which splits the paragraphs into separate fields. Then your Word merge links to that instead.
