    Build 7601 - not genuine?

Somebody installed Windows 7 on my machine about two months ago and suddenly I'm getting messages when I start up that it's not a genuine copy and that it's Build 7601. Everything is now running slower and some files are not getting loaded.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I think the relevant questions is whether your version is genuine or not and you should ask the person who did the install. If it is not, you will need to reinstall a legitimate version from scratch (even if buying a valid version would allow you to use your key to validate the current version, that is, if they matched), since there is always the risk that the non legitimate version is also infected with malware (which they often are).

It's possible that your Windows 7 Product ID was intended for developer evaluation and that it has now been blacklisted by Microsoft:

Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of windows is not genuine
