    Set Default Email Program

I've used AOL as my default email program through many generations of Windows.

One of my Windows 7 machines doesn't recognize AOL as the default email program, and I can't seem to find a way to fix it. The problem manifests itself when I click a 'mailto:' link on a website or CTRL click one in a Word document. Nothing happens. On all my other machines, clicking such a link opens AOL.

The various Help pages aren't of help, since none of them (that I can find) specifically address setting the default email program.

Who can give me some guidance?

It's surely the right place, but AOL doesn't show up in the list of default programs.

If AOL mail is a web mail client, it can't be done universally. Some browser specific answers can be found here:

Thanks for the link. I don't think AOL is a web mail client, but I'm not sure what that is. Anyway, the link says that the fixes proposed don't work for Word, and I'm having trouble with Word.

In the past, including on my other Windows 7 system, I just install AOL and everything works OK from the start. I've never had to do anything special.

On step 3 of the description in that page, choose Associate a file type or protocol .... You will be presented with a huge list of file types. Scroll to the bottom of it until you see a list of protocols. Choose the MAILTO protocol and then click the button at the top right, Change Program.

If this doesn't help, I suggest that you maybe repair or reinstall AOL.

AOL is still not on the list. I'm going to try reinstalling.
