Print dialog box does not appear (Word 2000 SR-1)

Clicking on file/print does not show the print dialog box as it has before. It simply prints one copy of the open document -- the same as clicking on the toolbar print icon. Without the print dialog box, there is no access to other print options such as collated printing, selected page printing. I sure would like to have the print dialog box back.

    Thanks, Phil.

Method 3 worked perfectly. Problem solved.

I suspect that somehow, you switched the command on the File menu. There are two print commands:
    FilePrint...
    FilePrintDefault

The first one is on the File menu. The other is assigned to the toolbar & prints 1 copy of the current document. Do whichever is easiest:

    Method 1:
If you haven't customized your normal.dot, then, with Word closed, click the taskbar, press F3, & search for normal.dot. Rename it to normal.old. Then restart Word. The new normal.dot should have the correct default commands.

    Method 2:
If you have customizations (styles, autotext, etc.) that you don't want to lose, you can copy those to another template & then do step 1. Then copy them back to your new normal.dot.

    Method 3:
    1. Choose Tools/Customize... The catagory box should highlight "File".
    2. Go to the commands tab & scroll to Print... Note that there are two print commands with a printer icon. One has 3 dots after it. That's the one you want.
    3. Click your File menu so it expands.
    4. Drag the Print command off the menu.
    5. Drag the "Print..." from the customize dialog box to your File menu (which is still open).
    6. Close the dialog box & exit Word, saving your changes.

Try it now. Hope this helps.
