    Repair faulty Verbatim USB Drive

I recently bought two Verbatim 8GB USB Drives. One works perfectly. With the other, Windows either asks me to format the drive (which fails) or identifies the device as an external drive with removable media, and asks me to insert a disc in the drive. Reading the drive shows no content, but attempting to write to it results in a "file not found" error. I'm using Windows 7 on an HP laptop. I've tried the drive on two other machines running XP, and every USB port on each machine. The results are the same.

I searched the web and found people with similar problems, but none of the solutions offered worked, including downloading a drive format tool from Verbatim. As with Windows, any attempt to format the drive starts, but ends with a failure message.

Does this sound familiar to anyone, and does anyone have a solution? I didn't pay much for the drives, but it frustrates me that I can't fix it (yet). I'd like to try every possibility before I give up.

    R.W.,

I would say you have a faulty device. Since you purchased it recently I'd grab the receipt and return or exchange it. HTH
