Why Does Word Default to FILE Tab after each edit?

I do a lot of work inside the various Tabs on the Word Ribbon. Word 2010 defaulted back to the Tab In Use after each edit. For some inexplicable reason, Word 2013 defaults back to the FILE tab, meaning that you have to repeatedly re-select the Tab that you are using in order to perform a sequence of edits. Productivity just took a dive. Is it possible to reset the default so that the Ribbon stays intact without defaulting back to FILE?

How about leaving the Ribbon Visible, rather than defaulting to HIDE?

Right-Click any tab and uncheck Minimize the Ribbon?

To clarify, this works the same in Word 2013 as in Word 2010.
