need help in excel (97 sr-2)

    Hi
I need help in Excel and hope you'll be able to help me

Basically I need a way to link data from 2 or 3 different excel sheets/wk.books.
eg:- I have a sheet in tabular form showing cat. code against description [see table 1] . I frequently send enquiries for the same ,and have to input the cat code alongwith the description of the item. Is there a simpler way of just inputing the code which would display the material description[see wksht 2]

Would welcome any help or ideas

    Regards
    jb

    jb,

Could you provide some more detail as it is not clear how the code is related to the description, e.g. in your example could you point out how 1134 is related to 1" WN RF # 150 A 105N.

Re: need help in excel (97 sr-2)

    Hi Andrew,
The code is from my office comp[oracle database]--laptop . I've made my own chart in excel[desktop] for easier reference while posting or referencing stock info on the office computor. I use excel for ordering and would find it easier to type in the code to diplay the mat description.Presently I need to type both .
    HOpe u can help
    Thanks

    jb,

I can see no way to pick up the description based on the code number in the example file you posted. I inserted a sheet called table which could hold a list of each item containing the CODE and the DESCRIPTION, so that you could use a VLOOKUP formual to pick the correct item. File attached.

See if it is suitable for your purposes, and check out the Help for more deatil on using VLOOKUP(). If you do need further assistence let us know.
