    graphics too big (2000)

I took a picture on my digital camera that is a 300k file. When I try to import the graphic into Word 2000, it blows it up and tells me that the graphic is now 12Mb. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix the problem?

    Hello rgscharf:

I can't say exactly "why," but I know it has to do with Word's graphics converter. After you've inserted the picture, if you copy it and then use Edit / Paste Special and select either "picture" or "device independent bitmap" it will greatly reduce the size of the graphic.

Is it a JPEG or a proprietary format?
Are you using Insert, Picture, From File or Edit, Paste?
