    2013 alongside 2010?

I just downloaded the 2013 Office trial. Can I install that alongside 2010 without any disruption to either version? And are the file formats 100% compatible?

    Regards,

I think you can do that with the Office365 version. I remember I did it and even had two versions of Outlook running without any issues, reading from the same set of .pst files and all. I am not sure that you will be able to do the same with a downloadable version, at least in what concerns Outlook, but I can't be sure...

It would be prudent to create a backup image first just in case.

When you install multiple versions of Office, you can only have one version of Outlook installed. When installing Office 2013, the file formats are compatible, but new features introduced with Office 2013 may not work correctly in office 2010. This is no different to earlier versions.

With Word, installing Office 2013 may also mess with the Normal template - IIRC there's a separate thread on this. Document content viewed in Word 2013 is liable to display differently in some cases to how it appears in Word 2010, especially where paragraph justification is concerned. The default paragraph justification (which you can't change) algorithm is now closer to what you used to get via the 'like WordPerfect 6' option. Additionally, non-breaking spaces created via Ctrl-Shift-Space now expand & contract like ordinary spaces in justified paragraphs. You can still get a fixed-width non-breaking space via 202F,Alt-x.
