How To Move Thunderbird Profile to a new machine

I am trying, unsuccessfully, to move the profile from a XP machine to a Win 8 machine. I've tried MozBackup and it didn't work. I Googled it and tried many there with no luck. I installed the profile folder from XP to Win 8Thunderbird folder.Opened Thunderbird and nothing. Opening screen asks if I want to start a new account. Sure hope someone can help me. Thanks.

Did you try backing up your profile and restoring it as described here:

You can't just move the folder (unless you modify the path in Thunderbird's profile.ini to point to the folder you moved or do the equivalent via manual renaming operations or TBird's profile management facilities): you need to replace the contents of the new profile folder created when you installed TBird with the contents of the profile folder you want to use.

Thank you both again for responding and your suggestions. I have got it working and I want to share with you how I did it.

Just install thunderbird do not run it and copy your Whole XP Thunderbird folder from %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\ to WIndows 8 %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\

This tip was given to me from urie from another board.

    Thanks again jwitalka and bill.
