    Gmail contacts gone

An unknown number of contacts and groups have disappeared for no known reason. I looked in my Carbonite backup files but found nothing sounding like contacts. Also looked at files on my desktop without success.

Can anyone help me locate contacts data on my computer? I use Win7 and ie 9. My email was hacked a couple of weeks ago and the virus generated emails to all my contacts. I notified everyone and looked for the bug but found nothing. I did not notice the loss until today so it may or may not be due to this event.

UPDATE ON JUNE 13: Another symptom: all of my contact groups were emptied -- no members -- even though the member contacts are still listed among the total contact list.

    Are they listed here?:
    https://www.google.com/contacts/#contacts

Are you using a desktop client or the web to access Gmail? If desktop, which client?

I do not know if I have eradicated the virus. I ran cccleaner and then Kasperski and found no problems. No new unwanted emails have been sent from my address since; at least none that I have heard about.

No, Jerry. This link only showed the remaining contacts.

    Hi Alan
I would also suggest you use Malwarebytes which is an excellent Anti-malware program which has a free version. You can download it here. Install it, update it's database and run a Complete Scan which may take up to 30 minutes depending on the amount of files you have. Then allow it to clean whatever if finds.
This may not help with your current Gmail contact problem but will help your system to be free of malware.

    Good luck,

If you are using the web to access Gmail, your Gmail contacts are kept on Google's servers. If they are not listed in the link I gave you, I'm afraid they are lost.
