Multiple Applications Start Spontaneously When Computer Unattended

I leave my Samsung laptop running all the time so that my wife can remotely access several files that we both need to use. When I finish up for the day I close all applications so that the backup I have scheduled to run late at night will not have problems with open files. On at least five or six occasions times in recent weeks I have returned to my computer in the morning and found a large number of application windows open. These included Word, Windows Explorer, Media Player, Acrobat, Outlook, Sandboxie, command window, and others which I should have noted but did not.

Scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes found nothing.

No and the applications that were open appeared too random to be by someone hacking in. Items like a blank command window, media player open but nothing selected or playing, etc. This has happened only a few times but once I was out of town and connected to a different network. Unlikely that someone is doing this. Possibly a hardware problem?

Does the remote access software sometimes produce random keystrokes?

    cheers, Paul

I think Paul was being a bit too sublime. Do any of the unattended startups coincide with the remote access by the better half? Looking for the simplest of possibilities first.

I wasn't suggesting a human "random keystrokes" cause, but you never can tell...

    cheers, Paul
