    Windows Defender

I wish to disable Windows Defender but the option to do so is grayed out in Services. How can I disable it? (I use Avast Internet Security).

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,

Try running services.msc from an elevated command prompt.

Alternatively you can disable it by using its main interface.

Under Settings > Administrator > untick "Turn on Windows Defender"

When you install avast or any other anti virus program Windows Defender is automatically disabled. On my desktop the options are also greyed out. The startup type is manual but the service is not running.
