Win 8 spontaneously closes programs, including itself. DNS question too.

Multi-boot Win 7 and Win 8. Win 8 is upgrade of Win 7, therefore identical except OS upgrade. Win 7 works fine. Win 8 spontaneously closes programs, mainly Quicken, Outlook and RoboForm task bar. This selectivity may be that I use these the most. Sometimes it is continuous. This has never happened in Win 7 and to check, does not happen now.
Win 8 has many times shut itself down with meaningless error msg. Tried pursuing msg but got noiwhere.
Is anyone else noticing this behavior?

Namehelp uses 127.0.0.1 as DNS setting. Works fine in Win 7 but not Win 8. Any ideas.

How about sharing that meaningless error message with us, someone here might get somewhere with it.

    Message, as requested:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are collecting error information---."
Rebooted before I could write down any more.
When other programs spontaneously close, there is no msg or warning.

Check the event viewer for more specifics, if any, for that error message. You should see something in "administrative Events".

Looks to me like you found the cause[??]

If this problem started immediately after upgrade, I would think there was a problem during the upgrade. Early on we had numerous problems with an Upgrade Install rather than a Custom (Clean) install. If this is the case, perhaps a reinstall using a Custom Install may give a more pristine OS.

If you have fast startup enabled in Windows 8, that has been known to cause multiple problems in a multi-boot setup, particularly with Windows 7.
Create a fresh drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!
