    MS 2000 Mouse-Win 8 - "The device is working properly" - NOT!

I'm doing some work on my son's new HP 2000 lap and it would be ohhh so much easier if I could get the mouse to work. My son came down to Phoenix from Flagstaff and he of course left his mouse (which works) up there. I have this MS 2000 mouse with a small USB device but I cannot get it to work.

I tried the usual tricks - uninstalling it and rebooting, etc., but nothing seems to get it going. Any suggestions.

As usual, thank all who offer assistance.

Sorry to ask, but have you tested the mouse elsewhere?

I took the EASY WAY OUT- I used a USB mouse I had on a shelf. I'll keep trying to get it to work once I'm finished with my project and yes, I tested the mouse elsewhere to the same result. Thanks.

If I understood correctly, the same happened when you tried the mouse elsewhere, which means the mouse is likely malfunctioning.

Also, a different mouse worked on the computer in question. The original mouse has to be bad.

The 2000 is a wireless mouse. You may have a bad USB transmitter. Make sure you have the latest drivers from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en...e-2000#support

If you have the latest drivers, contact Microsoft support at the phone number given on that page.
