    Lost Administrative Tools

I'm not sure how I lost them but they (I assume they are shortcuts) are AWOL.

The folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools is empty.

Right click Computer then click Manage gives an error.

They are not in the Trash.

    Suggestions?

If this is a recent happening, perhaps a System Restore to before it happened would solve the problem. You are correct, that location contains shortcuts to the various tools.

What about Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools? I think you can copy the shortcuts back from there.

I guess I assumed the shortcuts were lost from all locations. Copying them from another location could work if they are there. Good point. I still don't have an answer what could have happened in the Start Menu location the OP mentions.

    Well. I found them.

I am not sure how I did it but I have my old Win7 HDD connected as a USB plug-in and I'm installing worthwhile programs on to 8 and deleting them from 7.

Somehow I had deleted the shortcuts from C:/win8 and restored them to X:/win7 - the whole virtual folder thing I imagine.

They are back where they are supposed to be.

    Thanks all for your thoughts.

I have a short cut on the task bar to the Start Menu folder at
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
So I went there, and then selected Administrative Tools and it showed (Empty)

But when I navigated there with Windows explorer, it shows all the shortcuts in the Administrative Tools folder where they are supposed to be.

The Folder is read only, which is probably okay, but I can't turn off the Read Only bit.
