Win XP Pro New Install and Programs Won't Run

    Here is my dilema:
Installed a new SSD hardrive into my newly built computer. Installed my old 1-TB drive as secondary drive which contained Win XP Pro with all my programs, AutoCad, Office 2007 etc.. When I installed Win 7 Pro on my new drive it accidentlly installed some of the files on old drive wiping out my Win XP Pro. Could not recover it, so had to reinstall new Win XP Pro since I did not have my old disk. Renamed my old XP Windows and Program Files to save. Installed new XP Pro
up and running, but it does not see any of my programs such as AutoCad etc. Win 7 must have overwritten the registry. My question is how to get everything back to working. What steps do I need to take short of reinstalling everything at which I donot have all the disks?

Installing a new version of the OS caused a new registry for the new OS. It knows nothing about programs installed under XP.

Reinstalling XP Pro wiped out the XP registry.

Sorry but you'll have to reinstall everything.

Can you tell me where the registry is located?

It depends on the OS. It is not one file. Any attempt to copy from one OS to another with Windows Explorer will fail.
