    Line numbers in Word2K (Word2K)

    I have an odd problem with Word 2000.
    I would like to change the font of the line numbers in a Word2K document, but I cannot find a solution how to do that. I looked everywhere in the Help files and several times I checked the knowledge base of Microsoft, but couldn't find an answer. In your archives I didn't find a message on this subject. Perhaps it is not possible to change the font?
    Do you know a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    Pardon the ignorance, but what do you mean by line numbers?

    If you could attached said document, I'll take a shot at this.

    I would also be interested in seeing if this could be done. I believe that the attached file is an example of what Hans was referring to. You add Line numbering to a document by going to File-Page Setup-Layout tab-Line Numbers.

    Thanks,

    Ok, thanks for the education. No longer ignorant.

    I have created line numbers for Pleading Paper using a text box in the header layer. The font can be easily changed; HOWEVER, if you do that, the line numbers do not line up vertically with the body text (the fonts are different sizes whether the size property is the same or not!)

    Maybe the same thing would be true for the built-in line numbers, so MS does not provide a way to set the font of the line numbers. Of course, that last sentence is only an assumption. Maybe someone knows how it can be done.

    The fact that changing the text font also changes the line number font is a good sign that the two cannot be different.

    What's the saying? Never say never.

    Now if I can only figure out how I did it. <img src=/S/bash.gif border=0 alt=bash width=35 height=39>

    This document in front of me has the line numbers in Arial and the document text is Times New Roman. Looks good.

    Re: Line numbers in Word2K (Word2K)

    Ok,

    Here's a way to do it. You'll have to code it up in VBA.

    Set the the default Normal Style to the font you want for the LineNumbers. Apparently the LineNumbers use the Normal style.

    With Activedocument
    With .Styles(wdStyleNormal).Font
    .Name = "Arial"
    .Size = 12
    End With
    End With

    Then, set the font for the document range to the text font and turn on linenumbering.

    With Activedocument.Range
    .Font.Size = 12
    .Font.Name = "Times New Roman"
    With .PageSetup
    .LeftMargin = InchesToPoints(1)
    .RightMargin = InchesToPoints(0.5)
    .TopMargin = InchesToPoints(0.5)
    .BottomMargin = InchesToPoints(0.5)
    .LineNumbering.Active = True
    .LineNumbering.RestartMode = wdRestartContinuous
    End With
    End with

    I my case I added the document text *after* setting the range font. Don't know if that matters.

    Ingenious, but here is another solution: Change the character style "Line number".
