How can I tell whether FTP utility is transferring securely?

I was provided a proprietary utility that is supposed to transfer text data securely using the FTP-S protocol (NOT sFTP). But I am uncertain that the utility is actually transferring the data securely, and I am not sure how the security works. I believe the data is being transferred via port 21. Is there some kind of simple way of seeing the actual data that is transferred from the source Windows computer to make sure it has been encrypted or otherwise protected? And similarly can I see what data is received at the destination computer? Thanks in advance for your replies.

You need to load Wireshark on your PC and inspect all data sent on port 21. Note: this is not a trivial task, I suggest you pop back with some data when ready.

    cheers, Paul
