    Shortcut Bar (Office 2000)

I accidentally deleted the settings to start the Office Shortcut Bar on bootup. Short of reinstalling Office and deleting the shortcut bar key in the Registry, a la Microsoft, is there another way to get the Shortcut Bar to run on launch without having to reinstall the application? Thanks!

    Have you tried:
Control Panel | Add Remove Programs | Microsoft Offce > Change
De-select the Office Shortcut Bar from Office Tools
    and finish the setup,
Then repeat, but adding it back in?

We tried it, and I'll restart the computer in a few minutes as I need to keep it going. Thanks for the suggestion.

Shouldn't just copying a shortcut to the Office Shortcut Bar into your startup folder set it going again? It works with O97 but I haven't tried it with O2000 ...

That's a great idea. I went to the Shortcut Folder in Office but saw a bunch of .tmp files and a few other folders. How do I get a shortcut from the shortcut bar? Thanks for the suggestions and the help.

    Re: Shortcut Bar (Office 2000)

If you back up a couple of folders from Shortcut Bar in Office (I'm using an NT machine which is set up slightly differently, but it should be the first folder referring to Office) to a folder called Office or MSOffice, probably - you'll see a list of shortcuts to all the aspects of Office, eg Word, Excel, etc, including one for the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.

Copy this, then go to the main Startup folder (C, WIndows, Start Menu, Programs, Startup or something similar) and paste it in there. Next time you boot it should start automatically.

You can double click on this shortcut (either copy) anytime you like to start it again - and if the bar makes a habit of disappearing, maybe you might want to consider pasting a copy of the shortcut on the desktop, too!

    Re: Shortcut Bar (Office 2000)

    Beryl M,
I've mucked around in the Office folder and seen the programs and shortcuts but I can't figure out which one is the one for the Office Bar. Do you know offhand the title of the file? Also, how about this? I ran across this in the latest issue of PC World (URL http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article...,65153,00.asp) and plan to do this because we run into this problem. There is a Microsoft article in the KB about the Shortcut bar (Q292571) which suggests renaming the old shortcut bar in the Registry, deleting Msoffice.exe in all of its permutations, then reinstalling tOffice and the shortcut bar from Office Tools. Check out the PC World story and see if you think I can do all in one fell swoop.

Thanks a lot for your interest in this.

Of the top of my head, no - I've only got Office 97 at work, Office 2000 is at home, but I'll check this evening and see what it's called and where it is/needs to be.

I'll let you know the results, unless someone else who is sitting in front of an Office 2000 PC lets you know first!

    Re: Shortcut Bar (Office 2000)

    I usually do this workaround:
Right-click Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen,
from pop-up menu choose "Explore All Users" (WinNT) or "Explore" (Win9x),
on the left-hand pane, double-click Programs (under highlighted "Start Menu"), then Microsoft Office Tools,
on the right-hand pane COPY "Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar"
on the left -hand pane, double-click "Startup" under "Programs",
on the right-hand pane, paste shortcut into the folder.
The next time you boot up, Shortcut Bar will start.
