    taskbar blacked out

My Mother in Law was trying to change the resolution on her PC and I don't know what she clicked but now the taskbar and other setting are all blacked out. I can right click on desktop and it's blacked out also, I can go to the bottom and click on it and it will bring up the boxes but they are all blacked out also. I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Can you help?

    Thanks

    Sandy

Try these key combos at the desktop; first Windows key-D to clear anything that might be on the screen. Then right click on an empty space on the desktop (to the best of ability) and press the R key. If you see the outline of what might possibly be the Display Properties window, that's what you want.

If you get that then simply press enter and it will hopefully change the theme and clear up the black on black so you can see everything again. If it doesn't work first time try it again except before pressing the enter key, press the down arrow two or more times to choose a different theme that might do the trick.

If none of that works, try booting into safe mode and instead of full safe mode, say yes to system restore and choose a restore point just prior to the display difficulties.
