AD-Aware Antivirus by Lavasoft opening new tab in Chrome

    I have a Dell Laptop N5010 i5 cpu M 450@2.4 GHz 4.0 GB ram 534 free Space
Running Win 7 Home Pre 64 bits SP1

    E-Set Smart Security always running.
    Windows Firewall and defender also.

As back-ups I have the following:
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    Sky-Bot Search & Destroy
    AD-Aware AntiVirus by Lavasoft

My problem is with AD-Aware. When I start-up Google Chrome, it starts it's own tab and LavaSoft Secure Search opens up in another Tab. I have used CCleaner start-up to look for LavaSoft Secure Search....it is not listed. I also used SlimCleaner start-up to look for LavaSoft Secure Search....it is not listed. Windows own start-up LavaSoft Secure Search....it is not listed. I downloaded What'sinStartup and LavaSoft Secure Search.... it is not listed.

So now I don't know where to go to stop LavaSoft Secure Search from starting up a new tab in Chrome. Obviously it is buried somewhere and I have no idea where to look. Does anyone have ideas where else to look for this LavaSoft Secure Search.

Thank You for any help it will be greatly appreciated.

    Glenda

I long ago threw out AdAware. The are much better (IMO) and less intrusive apps available, MalwareBytes Antimalware, Spybot Search and Destroy that are much less intrusive as you seem to be aware.

I wonder if the AdAware AV is similarly intrusive. I have never even heard of let alone used it. I find other apps are better suited to my needs.

    Thank you Medico,

So what other apps do you recommend. I have e-set but it is getting ready to expire and I am wondering if I should dump it and go all freebies. I paid $70 for 2 years.

    thanks again

    Thank you Bruce,

So Chrome can find the LavaSoft Secure Search and remove it or disable it is what I would like to do. I do run it once in awhile to make sure E-set got everything. If I remove it then will Ad-Aware run properly?

    Thanks for your input.

I use AVG AV 2013 for my AV (paid version although free version is quite good as well), and MalwareBytes Antimalware Pro (free version is manual scan only, the Pro version runs in real time and plays well with other AV/AM apps) and both a S/W and H/W firewall.

You most likely have AdAware as your default search engine and perhaps as an add-on. This points out one of the problems that led me to dumping AdAware. It got very demanding and intrusive and tried to take over things (such as loading a different default search engine I did not want). You might have to disable all the add-ons associated with AdAware and dumping the search engine. You will most likely have to change the default to Google or Bing or whatever you wish to use. I would also then use Revo Uninstaller or other such app to uninstall AdAware and use the Advanced Scan to sniff out leftovers, then use CCleaner to find additional left over items.

Sorry Bruce for not getting back to you. I did what you said and I am no longer having LavaSoft setting up it's own tab.

    Thanks again for your help.

Thanks Medico, I will check into AVG AV 2013 will have to go with free version, Already have MalwareBytes free version and SpyBot search and destroy it is also free. The only Anti-security that I pay for is E-Set and I am sure they are getting my bill ready right now. What could I replace E-set with for my security and anti-virus sniffer. Preferably free? I use Google for my search engine, so I don't know why AdAware got itself in there too. But it doesn't open a tab any more. It was suppose to be a manual backup AV.

    Thanks again............Glenda
