How to count no. of occurrences of a particilar value in a cell range

    Hello
I am a relatively new user of this facility so please bear with me.

I want to be able to count the number of occurrences of a particular value
    within a specific cell range.

For example if cells a1 to a10 have the following values
    1,2,3,4,1,2,7,9,8,8

I would like to be able to find out how many cells contain a 1

If anybody can help I would appreciate it

    Thanks

    =COUNTIF(A1:A10, 1)

    will do that.
