Using 2 Outlook Calendars (2000)

Hi,

When our admin. assistant opens Outlook, the director's Outlook calendar opens as well as her own so that she can make/change appointments for him. Is it possible for her to see the director's appointments on her own calendar so that she doesn't have to switch back and forth? (She doesn't want her appointments to appear on the director's calendar.)

Thanks.

no, both can't be on the same calendar unless thye share a calendar. She can mark her's private so only she can see them.

at least a couple of solutions exist to make it easier...

she can use a folder home page with the outlook view control that points to her calendar and to his - they'll be side by side in one window.

also, slipstick.com has several utilities that display calendars side by side. AFAIK, none will display them both in one calendar.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Your 3rd paragraph sounds promising ("she can use a folder home page with the outlook view control that points to her calendar and to his - they'll be side by side in one window"). But I'm not sure how to do this. Could you please elaborate? Thanks.

Re: Using 2 Outlook Calendars (2000)

Short version: create an html page with this code for the folders:

<OBJECT classid=CLSID:0006F063-0000-0000-C000-000000000046 id=ViewCtlFolder width="50%" height="100%">
<param name="Folder" value="Calendar">
<param name="Namespace" value="MAPI">
<param name="Restriction" value>
<param name="DeferUpdate" value="0"></OBJECT>

<OBJECT classid=CLSID:0006F063-0000-0000-C000-000000000046 id=ViewCtlFolder width="50%"

height="100%">
<param name="Folder" value="Mailbox - Boss's NameCalendar">
<param name="Namespace" value="MAPI">
<param name="Restriction" value><param name="DeferUpdate" value="0"></OBJECT>
<param name="Folder" value="Calendar">
</OBJECT>

Easy version: attached file works on my system. (remove_.txt) I think that is the Outlook 2000 version of the view control - but i'm using Ol2002 so you might need a different object ID. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Right click on a folder and choose properties and use the path to the file as the folder home page. You can toggle it in Outlook2000 from the view menu - show homepage option. Or create a new folder that only holds the home page.

She will need to add his mailbox to her folder tree (exchange services, advanced options) for this to work.

oops, Me bad. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> second object code block has an extra line in it, the last folder param line is not needed and can be removed.

Thanks so much for all the trouble you've gone to. I'm afraid the solution is well beyond my capabilities! I'll just suggest to the admin. assistant that she enter her appointments on the director's calendar and mark them as private.

Re: Using 2 Outlook Calendars (2000)

Mary, in this msg from last November you showed an HTML file that could be used to display an admin's own calendar and a second calendar in the same window. I have OL2k; you said you have OL2002 so we should ask if it doesn't work. It doesn't.

I've never defined a home page so maybe I'm doing something wrong. I right-clicked the calendar, Properties, Home Page and inserted the path to the .HTM file. I edited the file so its contents use my folder names -
param name="Folder" value="Calendar"
and
param name="Folder" value="CalendarPersonal apptmts">

On the View menu I toggled Home Page on. Now what I get is what looks like 3 empty frames - two on the left stacked over each other, the third one on the right. It looks like it's all the right shape but invisible.

Help?

Thanks,
Dave

No luck - I have the same results. (Three empty frames, two of which have the "red X" broken-graphic icon in them.)

In case I mangled the .htm file that you posted in Nov., I'll attach the version that I put my own folder names in.
