How long are autosave files kept on the drive?

This is a followup to a previous post.

For the 2nd time in the last few weeks (see the post) my company has had a document completely disappear from our shared drive. The last time this occurred I was able--with help from mrjimphelps--to save the day by finding an autosave version of the lost file. Yesterday I wasn't as lucky; we opened this user's autosave folder and found nothing dated earlier than a few weeks ago.

This generates my question: how often are autosave files deleted? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to that question via Google, though this page says they're deleted after 4 days.

    Thanks in advance,

    Beej

Probably depends on the program, but I expect the behaviour to be "keep file until a successful manual save or the program/doc is closed".

If you are running Windows the shared drive should have "previous versions" enabled. If not ask your IT bods why not.

    cheers, Paul
