Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

I have three HP Business Inkjet 2800 printers. They work fine on my antiquated XP machine, but they have no Windows 7 drivers. I'd sure like to be able to print to them from my Windows 7 machines.

I was in Windows Help and Support today, and I blundered into a discussion of Windows XP Mode in Windows 7. I had never heard of this feature before.

Is there a chance that it might be the solution to my printer problem?

Windows XP mode can indeed be a solution for that. You need to be running 7 Professional Edition, at least, to be able to use XP Mode.
XP Mode is XP, so any XP drivers can be installed there. You cannot be certain until you try it though.

Sometimes, Vista drivers can also be used on 7 and the printer has a Vista driver. Maybe create a restore point, install the driver and see if it works in 7.

Have you tried Windows update optional updates with a USB connection? There is some indication that although not available for download from HP, they can be obtained through WU.

There is a method to use a Win XP mode type setup with Win 7 basic and Home Premium. It is slightly more involved by does seem to work.

F.U.N. - I will give this a try. Several years ago I was talking with an HP support guy in India who suggested there was a not-100%-complete way to use these printers with Windows 7. I never followed up with him, and HP never gave me the chance to upgrade my maintenance agreement, so I just abandoned the effort to make it work.

    Go here: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-sea...archtype=s-002

Select the correct model number: 2800, 2800dt, or 2800dtn. All three have drivers listed for Windows 7.

Make sure to select the correct version of Windows 7 (32-bit vs 64-bit; Enterprise/basic/home professional/etc).
