    juego.com browser hijack

Howdy all. I've been hit by this the last 3 times I've shut down & restarted the 'puter, then started the browser (Firefox). It hijacks the browser & closes all tabs except the one it occupies. Running Win7 Pro - fully patched; the latest version of Firefox; MSE. I've deep scanned the entire 'puter with a couple of different scanners, and turned up nothing whatsoever. I've also cleared the history & cookies, and I run several security & privacy add ons in Firefox. In all the years I've been on a 'puter, this is the only time I've had this happen. This #$%$%^^ thing just popped up outta nowhere 3 shutdowns ago, and I can't find it or get rid of the damn thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

    TIA,
    Mike.

Disable Browser Helper Objects -- third party add-ons which load when you run your browser.

I'm not sure how to do that in Firefox.

Thanks! Tried the suggestion from Jerry (didn't find that one in my search), and turned up nothing. This morning, 'puter was unresponsive & wouldn't wake up - figured the worst. Did a hard shut down w/power button & restarted. Crossed fingers (and toes, eyes, etc.) when starting Firefox. Normal apology box appeared (after abnormal shutdown) and let me reopen all previously open tabs. No juego!! Not sure what to think of this. *Maybe* I got the #$&%##@#$^ thing!!! One can hope!

    Thanks again,
    Mike.

Did you do a reboot after you performed the removal steps in my link? It might have been necessary to reboot to finish the repair. In any event, I hope juego is gone from you system for good.

I hope so too, Jerry. We shall see when I do a restart.

I have had in the past an occasion when I had to: Update all four virus killers. shut off the internet, run all four, reboot, run all four, reboot, run all four.
The virus was ID'd & killed on the second pass.
Be persistant and keep at it.
Working offline prevents the virus from phoning home for backup.

In this case, it may also help to uninstall Firefox or at least remove the current user profile, and either restore from a FEBE or MozBackup clean version, or rebuild from scratch.

Ran across this in another forum:

"By chance, I found the problem... When I set "Home Page" as "blank", in fact I am saying that firefox should open the page www.blank.com, which rediretcs to www.juego.com. If I want that firefox open a blank page, I must say "about:blank" and not just "blank"."

    Might be patrad's problem?

Thanks to all who posted. Glitch - I think you might have hit the nail on the head! I had done exactly that the day before I got hit by changing the firefox registry. That was the first thing I did - changed it back as soon as I thought about it (3 shutdowns & MUCH cussing later!), but I haven't restarted yet. Had too much medical stuff going on with my better half - she has a lot of health problems - so haven't had much free time the last few days. If it pops up again after I restart tomorrow, I'll try something else.

    Thanks again,
    Mike.

    windows key + pause/break key,
check the box to turn off system restore and reboot and then after reboot go back and uncheck the box. do this after you make sure your system is running correctly. you do that so you don't 'backup' your redirect problem that will come back if you do a system restore.
i would also install winpatrol http://winpatrol.com/ (free version) to make sure it doesn't happen again.

It appears that I have persevered! It *seems* to be gone. 2 restarts, no hijack.

Thanks again to all of you.
