Reinstall windows 7 pro does not delete current programs

My son has fragments of programs on his laptop (Dell) along with programs he no longer uses. Instead of using control panel he just wants to reinstall windows and start clean.

We rebooted the laptop with the windows disk in and clicked on delete all files and programs when that screen came up. After windows was done all the programs were still there.

We can't get this option to work. I have done this before on my PC and it works fine. Any ideas on what we should do?

    Thanks,

    Mike

From the Windows 7 disc, did you go to advanced options and format the drive before installing? If not, that should do it.

    Mike,

You state that this is a Dell. Most Dells have a factory installed recovery partition. You can check Dell's site for the specifics but usually Holding Ctrl & Tapping F11, while booting up, will bring up the recovery options. This will allow you to reset the computer to the state it was when you first unpacked it. HTH

Unfortunately, the factory recovery will also add all the garbage that came with the PC when it was new out of the box. You can then use an app called PC Decrapifier to get rid of this junk.
