    No cell properties (97/2000)

    Hello All,

    I have seen a lot of things happening in Excel, but now I've got something ....
    Look at the attached file.
    It is a file that I got from a friend, who got it form a friend. The strange thing is that I can not access the cell properties for the cells that have data in it.

    Maybe some of you can see what is happening and explane it to me?

    Thanks in advance.

    Patrick, what do you mean by "cell properties"? I looked at the Selection.Address property and it was correct. Is it just a specific cell? Thanks! --Sam

    Sammy, I think what is meant is that when the you try to format a cell the appropriate dialog box does not materialise. I am nearly sure a similar instance of this arose in the past, but trying to find the thread might take some looking.

    Check <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=xl&Number=67153&page=&v iew=&sb=&o=&vc=1>This thread</A>, where a similar problem was discussed, but no quick fix was found as far as I can see.

    I can find similar problem posts, created with Lotus & Quatro converters, but NO solutions. If you copy the original, piece by piece via Paste Special, to a new workbook, everything is OK except Paste Format, so you can get all of the data except the month columns with the filled in squares. I'm going to look at it with VBA. Later. --Sam

    Re: No cell properties (97/2000)

    It sounds like there is some corruption in the workbook. Take a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=xl&Number=67153&page=&v iew=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post67153>THIS</A> thread which discusses a similar problem.

    One other suggestion that is not in that thread. If you have Excel 2000, try saving the workbook in HTML format, then open the HTML file and save it back as a workbook. that someetimes will get rid of corruption.

    Re: No cell properties (97/2000)

    Sammy, the cells/ranges in question do not seem to have problem accepting formatting through VBA or by changing font and/or other attributes by use of toolbars. An ugly problem which looks like corruption of some sort.

    Re: No cell properties (97/2000)

    We seem to agree that there is no general solution to this corruption, so I wrote a macro to copy everything that I thought was important to a new worksheet. HTH --Sam
    <pre>Option Explicit
    Sub FixCorrupt()
    '
    ' FixCorrupt Macro
    '
    Dim r As Range
    Dim i As Integer
    Const xlPasteColumnWidths = 8

    Set r = Range("A1").CurrentRegion
    r.Copy
    Workbooks.Add
    Range("A1").PasteSpecial Paste:=xlValues, Operation:=xlNone, _
    SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
    Range("A1").PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteColumnWidths, Operation:=xlNone, _
    SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
    Columns("A:A").HorizontalAlignment = xlCenter
    Range("A1").CurrentRegion.BorderAround xlDouble
    Range("A1:J1").BorderAround xlDouble
    Rows("1:1").Font.Bold = True
    Rows("1:1").HorizontalAlignment = xlCenter
    Columns("B:C").NumberFormat = "m/d/yyyy"
    Range("D1:I1").Orientation = -90
    Range("B1:C1").Select
    Range("A1").WrapText = True
    For i = 2 To r.Rows.Count
    For j = 4 To 9
    Cells(i, j).Interior.ColorIndex = r.Cells(i, j).Interior.ColorIndex
    Next j
    Next i
    End Sub</pre>

    Wow

    Thank you all for the responses.
    I thought that is was some kind of corruption.So I will copy the data to a new workbook. Thanks for the macro Sam.

    Thanks for thinking with me
    Have a nice weekend.

    I know I'm too late and you already redid this, but I just looked at your file and have a fix:

    Use the Name Box to select the Print Area, go to Format/Autoformat, click the Option button and clear the check for everything but Border and click OK. Once the borders are stripped, the Format Cells box is available again -- you just have to reapply the borders.
