Unhappy Remote assistance for home network

My husband and I have computers in the same room both running Windows 8 Pro. We would like to be able to see each other's screens without having to get up and move to the other computer. We used to be able to do that easily with Windows 7 Remote Assistance. I could go to RA and get a link to send him and when he clicked on it, he could see my computer on his screen. My husband has his screen set for his 92 year old eyes so this was very helpful to us. It was very handy and we used it frequently. Remote Assistance doesn't work that way in Win8, at least I don't know how to make it work. It seems to need an Exchange Server. Can anyone help us out or suggest something short of LogMeIn which I know about and it much more cumbersome to use?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

As far as I can tell there haven't been many changes on RA, in Windows 8. The UI has suffered some changes, but maybe this will help accessing it:

You have to configure the computers to allow Remote Assistance access, before anything else.

Exchange Server only handles email. Perhaps your email is not configured correctly to send the Remote Assistance invitation?

I think you should save the invitation as a file instead: Use Remote Assistance in Windows 8

(Because presumably you use webmail, not an email client program.)

Remote Assistance is enabled by default.

Yes, you are right. I actually checked mine and I was sure it wasn't enabled, but I checked it again and it was.

X2 for Team Viewer. It's free for home use. I have worked on my mother's PC about 160 miles away and my sister's PC about 1500 miles away. I can also do the same with my wife's PC across the room. Very fine piece of S/W.

I'd love to be able to jump in my Learjet and run service calls all around the world, but alas.....I'm a po'boy and can't afford the gas to even run calls 100 miles away like I used to.

So I rely on "Team Viewer" to put me where I can't physically go.

I test it out here in my house, from one PC to another, to get the 'feel' for it, then I'm ready to go "Remote".

So far I've connected to PC's half way around the world and done cleanups and tuneups, upgrades, etc.
It's cheaper than having people UPS their computers to me.
(although that HAS happened on several occasions)

But yes..... I'll definitely Ditto the advise to use "Team Viewer".

Sometimes, here at home, it's simpler to just use the "Sneaker Net".
That's where you put some file on a flash drive and run it over to the other PC and download it.
The only lag time is...how fast you can run.

    Cheers Mates!
