What plays sound on the net

please I am not sure if this is where to put this but I will start here.

I get really poor sound on the net. Sometime ago Eileen suggested a new flash player. Upgraded that to no avail. Loaded something called RealPlayer, RealJukebox, Real..., spent all day yesterday adjusting that--no good

Tried MSPlayer and it really messed up my local things. Caused simple CDs to skip.

What do you people use or suggest. I want to be able to listen to music, radio, and play games with sound.

System is Win98 IE5.5 on a Pentium 56K modem & Soundblaster ES1868

Hi
Without a broadband connection you will not be able to do any of the things you want smoothly and without breaks. Every so often there will be a halt whilst the buffer fills up. This is worse for video than sound in that it will happen more frequently and take longer. It is a limitation of the 56k modem trying to work with real-time streaming media..

Tx Merc It figures. Don't think I can justify the expense of a broadband connection since my business use is only about a third of the connection time. Some how I don't think the IRS will allow me to call DeStressing a business expense. Oh well gives me something to work toward.

You might be able to justify it based on the need for a free telephone line. Broadband connections do not tie up your phone.

I don't think that the IRS will be too concerned over the additional cost of a broadband connection versus dialup. You can always argue that it gives your business more flexibility to exploit online business & communications. The way technology keeps changing, you never know what you may need. Throw into the mix the time it takes to download Microsoft's frequent product updates & fixes, and broadband becomes even more justifiable.

Besides, if the IRS was going to be that picky, it would open up a whole host of ways that they could interfere with day-to-day business operations -- ie, do you really need that fancy new computer system since the old one still worked -- that they really have no interest in getting into.

I don't think the IRS will be telling us to buy Yugos for our corporate fleets instead of Buicks any time soon. They're both cars, right? They both serve the same purpose, just at differing costs.

Tx Ian and David. If I had a dedicated phone line I might even increase the business usage. Guess I could keep a log and only claim the actual percentage used for business,

So new question for software does any one (Hey wake up Merc) have a program which keeps a log of log on time?

My response on the IRS is not appropriate for this board.

Hi
..Wha..? Uh.. who am I?
I think there are one or two such programs around. It's a bit late for me to search now, even though you have woken me up, but I use Tick 1.05. It logs calls to the net, but the pricing is in

It's all in how you characterize the expenditure to the IRS. In any busines however, the first question should be "can we afford it?" and only then "can we afford not to have it?". Going broke in style is still going broke.

Tell the IRS it's for customer and product research (you have plenty of net-based competition, if I understand your business), and it is also to make your business more efficient, the Lounge will definitely help with the latter. (Caveat; my advice is worth what you pay for it.)
