dump Exceptions (2000)

In Autocorrect/Exceptions, is there a way to delete ALL the exceptions at once?

I've tried looking for the file with the hope of simply deleting it, rather than go thru the dialog box one word at a time.

    Hi Peter:

The files are *.acl. In English versions, in Word 2000, it's primarily mso.acl & mso1033.acl. However, I wouldn't recommend deleting it, as it contains ALL your autocorrect settings. You can keep it from growing by unticking the box that says "automatically add words to the list".

It may be that someone can write a macro, but I think you're stuck with deleting one at a time manually.

    Thanks Phil -

I checked mso.acl with Notepad - it looks like the file is written with wide chars. Altho it is somewhat legible, i dont like to edit files that start OUT looking "funny", so i'm gonna leave 'em alone, and just pound the delete key. I suppose i could gin up a keyboard macro...

    Hi Peter:

I've never looked at the .acl file in Notepad. However, if you think you have a shot at editing it, you could always make a copy first, & then edit to your hearts content. If it really screwed up, you could delete the file & rename the copy. No guarantees, though.

oh yeah! - be bold with MY files . My practice is to make a copy and work on it with the expectation that something will go wrong. That way i dont have to rename files until i get something that actually works.
