    Automatically boots to safe mode

Can anyone tell me what would cause the computer to automatically boot into safe mode on start up?

    Any error messages at all?
Have you installed any new software or hardware?

    Try:
Q143283 Windows 98 or Windows 95 Defaults to Safe Mode Even After Successful Start

Re: Automatically boots to safe mode

There are no error messages when it reboots and goes into safe mode, but there are a lot of "illegal operation" messages and "lock-ups" while on the internet (the few times I can get past safe mode to get ON the internet!). This particular computer did contract the magistr virus ( You helped me on that one), but I thought we did everything we were suppose to, to get rid of that. Norton Anti-Virus 2002 has been installed also and according to it there are no longer any viruses. I was wondering though, if I should just re-install Windows 98. If I do that, should I uninstall Windows 98 and reinstall from scratch or just re-install over the one that's on there now?

A fresh start may be the best (quickest) solution - a clean install would be the ideal way to go.
To get rid of all traces I think you want to re-format your hard disk, which means backing up all your data first.
    Are you up for that?

It may be worth seeing if anyone else has any comments first . . .
