Unhappy sigh... whats with Windows 7 and error 0x80070035 the network path was not found

    Hi there,
    I am totally frustrated!
What is with Windows 7 and the error 0x80070035 the network path was not found.
    My situation in a nutshell:
I had three computers all running Windows 7 and linked up with the home group successfully.
They are all running zone alarm extreme security

About a month ago, I started to have one computer act up with the error. Since then, connection problems connection problems have spread to all three computers on the network.
    I've tried everything:
    . Disabling zone alarm
. Switching on various network configurations
. Going through almost every single thread on this form and every other form trying the various options
. Checking for malware using Malwarebytes
I've even completely reinitialized one laptop to the factory settings and reloaded everything
    Nothing!
It seems to be a generic error problem rather than a specific one with no specific solution.
I posted a previous request for assistance in another forum and was recommended to try the Windows fix-it program. No joy.

I must admit I am really frustrated as the situation is getting worse and worse.
Especially as my wife can no longer connect to the workstation with the shared printer!

    Any and all suggestions welcome

    A very frustrated Larry

    Hi Larry,

In addition to working through Joe's suggestions, there may be other things at play.

First up, 'disabling' a firewall or other security software doesn't mean it's completely disabled. Only a full uninstall can do that, and many security softwares don't always uninstall cleanly and ZA is is one of them, specialist cleanup/uninstall tools are needed (I can't find the direct link at ZA, MajorGeeks have it: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/deta...uninstall.html).
Sometimes Windows own firewall can be the source of the block, even though it appears to be disabled. Sometimes, turning it on and then testing again will lead to a popup from Windows firewall asking if you want to modify some setting - this may be the block.

There may be some interference from a previously installed security software, removal tools for most are linked here: http://www.carrona.org/avuninst.html

I would remove ZA from all PCs and use the removal tool. Ensure Windows firewall is enabled on all machines, test again. If it then works as expected, reinstall ZA on one machine at a time, testing at each step.

    Hi,
    So far, so good.
I completely uninstalled zone alarm using Revo uninstaller on all three machines and was able to get complete access to all the machines and all the machines could join the same home group with shared printers etc. etc. etc.
So, my wife now has printing!! <Grin >

Next step is to install zone alarm individually machined by machine to see if I can have the excellent security of zone alarm as well as Windows network sharing.
    I will keep you informed.

    Cheers
    Larry

    Huzzah!
    Problem Solved
Of all of the excellent suggestions provided, I must give thanks to Super Moderator .
    The problem was zone alarm!

Following his instructions, I deleted zone alarm from all computers using Revo UnInstaller. A program that I highly recommend! Cleaned everything out.

Restart of the different computers and was able to connect them all.

Then reinstalled zone alarm and all of the individual computers, testing as I want along. The connections were maintained and best of all:

My wife had her printing back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So thanks again to everyone.

    Keep up the good work

    Cheers

    Larry

PS – is there a way for me to Mark the problem solved?

    Excellent news, Larry!

Yes, you should be able to mark this as Solved - see above for Thread Tools?

If not, I'll look back in later and do it for you.
