    Count including decimal places

    Hi Loungers,

    After some assistance again.

Please see the attached speadsheet. I need to number

    1
    1.1
    1.2
    etc

Got the Item Colum to number correctly, but having trouble including the Subitem as a decimal

Hope that make sense - any assistance would be much appreciated

    Regards

I'm attaching "A" solution...maybe not "THE" best solution, but it works.

Mine is similar to kweaver's. But since you have to use a special formula (distinct from the rest of the column) to get the first cell numbered anyway, why not just start with 1?

Note that your numbering scheme, regardless of how it's implemented, runs into trouble if there are more than nine subentries. You'll get to, say, 2.9, and then the next one will be 3, and everything goes haywire after that. If that situation is possible, you'd probably want to either go with 2.01, etc., or treat the numbering column as text, so you can get 2.11, 2.12, etc. That would require a more involved formula, but still doable.

Another solution, and a heads-up on boundary conditions

Oops, sorry, I forget to attach my file in my quick reply. I hope that worked (my first time posting here )
