    Systray needed?

I recently had to boot up my Win98 pc in 'Safe Mode' and I noticed that the only program running was Explorer -- without the usual Systray. What function does Systray perform, and is it really system-critical to have running all the time?

    Re: Systray needed?

Systray is the little box bottom-right that displays things like the time, your volume control and can indicate the presence of some programs
I believe Systray is not needed, but several programs that use it may cause an error if they have been set-up to be displayed there and can't find it.
It shouldn't be using much in the way of resources on its own - I'd suggest leaving well alone.

    Re: Systray needed?

Advice from Novell's support desk on installing client software is that the only programs required to be running at installation were EXPLORER and SYSTRAY, added that MAPISP32 should not be terminated if present. This was for WIN95/98.

I think the SysTray is required.
