Removing Header & Footer from 1st page of Word Document

    Hello-

Does anyone know how to remove the header and footer from the 1st page of a document without it affecting the header and footer for the rest of the pages?

Also, my current header and footers have a blue background which I want to change to a different color but cannot figiure out for the life of me how to do this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Lounge as a new poster.

You need to change the page setup by selecting "Different first page".
This will allow you to setup separate headers and/or footers for the 1st page and the rest of the document.

As to the color try right clicking on the header and see if the fill color is set then use the dropdown arrow to change it back to white. It is also possible that someone placed a graphic in the header and that has the color applied. If so just delete the graphic. HTH

Yes, you want to use the "different first page" option. Version of Word matters on how to do this.

    Word 97-2003 http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/sections.htm
    Word 2007-2013 http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/sections2007.htm

Background: Is this something you see only on screen or something that prints?
Word deliberately makes the header/footer appear different (shaded/faded) in print preview because it is a different "layer" in the document. It prints as if not faded/shaded.
