Can't get past SP-! to reinstall Win 7

I started having problems with Win7 Home Premium, 64 bit that I have been using on a Dell 530, 4G memory and decided to follow Fred's instruction for reinstalling Win7.
I tried to uninstall SP-1 but was unsuccessful. I clicked on the uninstall screen and the green progress bar completed but then just stalled. I waited an hour and thenI clicked cancel and SP-! was still in the update list and the Win 7 disk did, indeed, say I couldn't upgrade.
I did a restart and same result.
I looked at the System Restore list and there were NO restore points, only Windows Module Installer installed.
Any ideas how I can get rid of SP-1 so I can reinstall Win7?

See Iso images for win 7 with SP1 from official Microsoft downloads for links to download Windows 7 with SP1 integrated. You can use this to reinstall Windows and use your same key.

    next step

Another novice question--I dl and burned the ISO file to a DVD. Now I can just stick that in and go to the "reinstall and not lose any applications, etc."
