Gmail in WLM 2011: IMAP error

When I send mail from my gmail account on WLM 2011, a pop up appears saying server is terminated. details show Gmail IMAP settings. I have set up gmail as advised on IMAP server. the server is set as IMAP and outgoing is smtp.gmail.com. Since my gmail account uses IMAP, I used the same sattings in WLM 2011. I appreciate any help available.

Don't use IMAP, use Pop-3 and everything will work just fine.
I've been doing this for years, for myself and all my customers.

You have to start by setting that up at Google (GMail) under Settings.
Then set it up on your PC.
There's a tutorial at GMail, telling you how to do the whole thing.

I hate Windows Live Mail!!! I only use Windows Mail, re-activated.

Windows Live Mail is harder to set up, harder to use and looks like Sh**!

WE've discussed how to re-activate Windows Mail in Windows 7, in other threads,
    and it's actually pretty easy.

    Good Luck!

If you are happy with WLM 2011, there's no reason to change. IMAP's main advantage is the ability to access a single Email account from multiple sources and keep everything in sync. Did you follow all the steps given here:

Hello Jerry. I followed the steps on your link. When I go to your link, it geves me a screen to turn on IMAP. I do this but then it does not show a save button. Please advise.

In the link I gave you, setting the "I want to enable IMAP radio button just enables the display of the instructions to accomplish this as shown below. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings
    1.Sign in to Gmail.
2.Click the gear in the top right.
    3.Select Settings.
    4.Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

    After doing this
    5.Select Enable IMAP.
    6.Click Save Changes

Then configure Windows Live mail as described here:

I could not understand some of the instructions on the link. Here is what I captured from my WLM settings. I am unable to save as graphic. I saved in PDF but can't attach them. I will try to paste the screen capture on power point and save as graphic and sent it over to you for your review and advice.

I just set up my Gmail account in Windows Live Mail using the same settings that you use and it works fine. I double checked all your settings and they look good to me.Unless you mistyped your login ID or password, I have no clue why it doesn't work for you. You could try temporarily disabling any AV or third party firewall you may have running to see if they are interfering.

Thanks. As you have seen, the server terminates only when I am in Gmail with WLM. With gmail through browser, the server works fine. I don't know what to do next. By the way, if either you or any one has email support address for Windows Live 2011. I think I will have to contact them directly. Just as I did before, I will go in program options and repair WLM if this works.

When Windows 7 first came out, I did a setup for a new customer. At that time I was not all that familiar with Win-7, so I set him up with WLM. I found it to be a real ball buster, compared to O.E.6.
My customer hated the look of it, but it worked, more or less and we both agreed to leave it go.

Since then I've learned how to RE-Activate Windows Mail in Win-7 and that sets up and looks almost exactly like the old familiar Outlook Express.

IMAP? Why? GMail works best and sets up easily in POP3. That's all I ever use, for me and my hundreds of customers who now use GMail. We all send and receive our email with NO problems at all.

    Just a thought.

IMAP is a good choice if you read your email from multiple devices - desktop, laptop, tablet, and/or phone. Much easier to keep in sync than POP.

Well OK.... But, I don't do that and my customers don't do that, so I guess that's why we're all just ticked silly with Windows Mail and POP3.
To each his/her own, I guess.

    Cheers mates!
