icons in start>programs no longer open programs

some icons in start>programs no longer open programs, instead they open a choice of shortcuts to optopns like help, uninstall, update, or/and the program itself

the icons seem to represent "file folders" where as the unaffected ones represent "applications"

anyone know if this can be fixed
    thanks

Have you double checked the shortcut properties to make sure they still point to the correct program?

If they open the program then I don't understand your original question. Can you post a screenshot?

    qaz,

Hello... are you sure that you have "permission " ( logged on as Admin) to run programs ? Regards Fred

PS: Also have you moved any of your "programs" ie: placed on a different HD or folder

re Fred. yes thats ok. thanks

joe:. does this help before i post screen shot. instead of a click on one icon to open the program the click opens a choice of options like help, uninstall, update, or/and the program itself. i can drag the program icon back into the start menue, then delete the other icon, then that one is back to normal again. all the "affected" ones have/are the same "folder" icon with 6 colored pix in a folder design

about this time a started then immediately cancelled a disk image backup with macrium reflect....i wonder
