Cleaning up a crush of MS Office updates

    PATCH WATCH

Cleaning up a crush of MS Office updates

    By Susan Bradley

While most of us are getting ready for Fall, Office users are digging out from under an excess of mostly nonsecurity updates. Not all the Office patches are ready to install; the Office 2010 SP2 release still has issues.

The full text of this column is posted at windowssecrets.com/patch-watch/cleaning-up-a-crush-of-ms-office-updates/ (opens in a new window/tab).

Columnists typically cannot reply to comments here, but do incorporate the best tips into future columns.

Had issues with both Office 2010 and 03 with these latest updates. Excel grid lines and contents within were not lining up when printed. After restoring win7 prior to 2010 updates, and removing the very last update from 03 solved the problem. Is it okay now to reinstall these updates, or have others had issues like these?
    Thanks,
    Ron

I have not seen reports of this. Can you reinstall that Excel 2003 all by itself to see if merely that one causes issues?

I'm not seeing side effects with these --

Ugh. "Startup repair can not fix this computer" after installing KB 2876315. Are you able to help Susan?

ETA: Uh...I kicked the computer and it has started up! I'm thrilled but don't understand why that would have got it going again?

Thanks, I'll have to check that jwitalka. I'm nervous about shutting it down though...trying to save certain info to an on line email provider first.

    Almost Final Sep13 Update Cleanup

Based on Susan's latest column re "cleaning up" Sep updates I have installed the updates that I could find a reference to but was unable to find here or in her other list whether to install on my Win7 64 Pro machine the following updates

    -KB2836943
    -KB2853952
-KB2868116 (did find other notes on web showing this update creating problems)

Does anyone know if any of these three are ok to install per Susan's criteria?
    Thanks ... TGH

All three of those are listed as Install in the column to which you refer.

Susan, thank you for doing a great job evaluating and commenting on patches. Am I correct that you meant KB 2760597, not KB 2760957?

Hope your week has started off well.
    Charles
