Clean install of Windows 8.1 upgrade?

It has been both possible and legal to do a clean install from a Windows 7 upgrade. Is such possible for Windows 8 / 8.1?

If so, where can one be downloaded?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Windows 8.1 won't be released to the general public until 17th October if that's what you're looking for.

I would hang back a bit and see what (if any) teething problems it has.

You can be sure they will be reported here!

It will be possible using the same method. Download the ISO file, burn to DVD or Flash, boot to the media you have burned the ISO file to and choose Custom Install.

In order to use the Upgrade from a burned DVD or Flash I have read you would need to start the Upgrade from within Windows, load the media and choose the Setup.exe file.

What happens to users who got Win8.0 by buying a pc with it preinstalled, as they get a free upgrade to 8.1 via Windows Update.

I believe there will also be an option to download the ISO file. There might also be something similar to what we saw in Win 8 where you could upgrade by creating media. This was where we had the ability to burn the ISO file to media.

To use the ISO method, how do you find the 'Key' of the OEM that would have to be entered for activation ?

The key on the new systems is included in the protected systems partition. I hear it is no longer on a tag on the PC case.

Have been experimenting with Win8.1 RTM version since it was released and have found no problems so far. Check my previous post.
