Booklet printing in Word 2000 (Word 2000)

I would like to put my address book in Word 2000. I know I can use Outlook, but my home address book has lots of "assorted" data (kid's birthdays for some folks, work phone for others), and Outlook seems to want more standardized data. I used to be able to print booklets with WordPerfect -- it would calculate the number of pages, ask if I wanted two or four pages per sheet, ask if I wanted to duplex them, and print it out. Can I do the same thing in Word? I can't find anything in the online help or in Woody's Office 2000 book, but I know how sometimes I'm just using the wrong terminology and the feature is right there...

    Thank you for your help.

To my knowledge, Word2000 does not have the capability to make booklets as WordPerfect can. You can try a shareware program, Clickbooks at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.bluesquirrel.com/clickbook/>http://www.bluesquirrel.com/clickbook/</A> to get this capability. Or you can do it yourself. Two articles I like are from PCMagazine at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/pctech/content/solutions/wp1704a.htm>http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/pctech/content/...ons/wp1704a.htm</A> geared to Word97, or at the mvps.org <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/BookletPrinting.htm>http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Format...etPrinting.htm</A> ...J.Till

You can customize the Outlook Contacts page to include more fields and more misc. information (which I just toss into the notes field). I haven't done this, but you might want to ask in the Outlook forum. Outlook 2000 is much more customizable than were Outlook 97/98.

Otherwise, the macro at the MVP FAQ page you already were given works OK for booklet printing from what I've heard. It is my understanding that XP does a better job with booklets but I could be remembering wrong on that.

Otherwise, in Word, you might want to also look into using a table or an excel spreadsheet to hold your information and using mailmerge to actually construct your booklet. For more on mailmerge, follow the links at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#mailmerge> Word Web Resources - MailMerge</A> (addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm).

Re: Booklet printing in Word 2000 (Word 2000)

You can do two pages per sheet in Word 2000 by going to File/Page Setup/Margins tab and at the bottom of the dialog select 2 pages per sheet. They look like they are separate pages in Print Preview, but it does print out on the same page. To print landscape, be sure you make that selection on the Paper Size tab in the same dialog box. For two sided printing, I think you will have to go to Printer settings dialog and select it there. I would recommend using Outlook to maintain contacts instead, though. It is not terribly difficult to customize the contact form. That way, you can do things like create email distribution lists or run mail merges in Word to send everyone customized letters.

Hope this helps -- Good luck!

Just a comment about booklet printing:
Some printers have this ability and you don't need to do anything to your Word document. Simply go to the printer's properties and select booklet printing there.
